Is your building compliant with the latest window safety legislation requirements?
- It is now legislated that owners corporations must install window safety devices.
- Windows do not have to be permanently restricted – however if a window safety device is capable of being removed or unlocked it must have a child resistant release mechanism.
- Windows may be opened to their full extent if children are not present in the lot provided the window is fitted with a device that can be restricted for children when necessary.
- All windows in all rooms – existing and new strata schemes.
- There is no requirement for installer-issued compliance certificates. This is offered at the installer’s discretion.
- There is no requirement that installers test devices after installation. This is offered at the installer’s discretion.

WINDOWS OTHER THAN BEDROOMS
- a window safety device is required where the lowest level of the window is less than 1.7m above the floor and the internal floor below the window is 4m or more above the outside surface beneath.

BEDROOM WINDOWS
- A window safety device is required where the lowest level of the window is less than 1.7m above the floor and internal floor below the window is 2m or more above the outside surface beneath.
- The safety device must have a child-resistant release mechanism if it is capable of being removed or unlocked.
